Lyon Saint-Exupery Airport

Hot tips for this season

The aim: to become France’s No. 2 airport

To achieve the ambition of becoming the second largest air travel entry point in France, we needed to invest and equip the Lyon urban area with the means to welcome ever-increasing flows of travellers.

For almost one year now (the first stone was laid in December 2014), Lyon-Saint Exupéry has been undergoing a major transformation. The future Terminal 1 is beginning to take form and, with 70,000 sq. m, will double the surface area of all the current terminals put together.

One of the key aims will be to improve service quality by providing the best international standards. This will include clear, real-time information on directional signage, easier access to the Terminal with immediate proximity of transport networks and shuttles, 10,000 sq. m of shopping and relaxation areas, effective passenger management in order to shorten queues throughout the arrival, check-in and boarding process. To sum up, an airport experience designed to optimise passenger time. You will be able to discover the first part of the new concept for Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport in 2017, followed by the complete version in 2018, which will see the new terminal linked up to the current Terminal

New links – fly to America direct

New lines are being opened to widen the range of direct links.

Since September, four direct weekly flights now link Lyon with Luxembourg (provided by the airline Chalair).

In terms of low-cost airlines, EasyJet is launching four new destinations:

  • London Southend (one flight per week)
  • Belfast (one flight per week)
  • Naples (2 flights per week)
  • Amsterdam (4 flights per week)

Lastly, perhaps the most eagerly awaited line is the opening of a Lyon-Montreal link by Air Canada.

It will operate as of the 17th of June 2016, and will provide a direct link to North America.

Following the success of Emirates lines to the East, the conquest of the West now begins!
