C'est le Débarquement !

It's D-Day!

The allies are landing at the CHRD until January 4, 2015…

Operation Overlord began on the Normandy beaches on June 6, 1944.
70 years later, the Resistance and Deportation History Centre gives us an opportunity to relive those crucial days which changed history.

Beyond what we learned at school and archive footage of soldiers storming up the beaches, what do we know about the landings?

This exhibition offers a fresh insight into this period in history, viewed from a human perspective through portraits of the men who were there.
It enables us to share the often tragic lives of the young men caught up in the conflict.

Their personal belongings, letters or uniforms make it possible for us to forge a link with the troops of all nationalities and to view the human side of a period in history characterised by both drama and hope.

From Normandy to Provence, you can immerse yourself in the last days of the Occupation.

Bridging the past and the present, three authors were given free rein to create comic strips inspired by the exhibition. A Canadian, a German and a Frenchman give their view of D-Day through the eyes of a fellow countryman.

700km from the D-Day beaches, the CHRD invites us to experience a moment of commemoration and history from a very human perspective.

Tours of the exhibition in English are available at 2:30 PM: Friday 27th June, Friday 4th and Saturday 12th July, Saturday 30th August, Fridays 5th and 12th September 2014.
